Slaves (approximately 60)

Owned by Judge John Rowan of Bardstown, Ky.

Jarret Rowan and my great, great grandmother Mary Lyons were slaves of John Rowan, Jr. Our family’s oral history and documentation helped me trace our family’s surname to these two persons.

I wrote a book titled Rising Above It All in 1994. A reunion was held and documented by The Lexington Herald with pictures. Another reunion was held in 1996 and documented by the Louisville Magazine. The writer was Marie Bradby with pictures. These reunions were held at My Old Ky Home as a tribute to the slaves and descendants.
